Is additional maths hard?
As per the topic above- I am a Secondary 3 student offering A Maths and have heard terrible things about the subject.
Student X
To you and those who are fearful of A Maths, please don't be. When one abhors a certain subject, he/she will devote (unwillingly of course) lesser and lesser time/effort towards confronting it head on. This becomes a real pain in the neck when the mess eventually piles up over those 2 years, perhaps even causing the student to give up entirely due to the sheer amount of undone shit crashing down.
For starters, while you don't have to force yourself to be deeply infatuated with the subject, what you should try to do is at least convince yourself not to hate it. Start early (obviously since you got more time on your hands). Attempt baby steps. Be patient, give yourself time to internalize the concepts taught to you in class. Grow some balls and fire away at your teacher (with questions that is) till you got it all figured out. Don't be stressed because everyone else seems to be loating high above you in terms of mathematical intelligence - its about winning yourself, not your peers. So give yourself a pat on the back when you finally grasped a specific chapter of your textbook, and to hell with the smartass who conquered the same material 3 weeks ago.
Inevitably throughout those 2 years of your upper secondary life you may encounter many lows (poor grades, sniggers and unkind remarks from classmates etc), but do hang on in there. Never let go, never say die. While I rarely coach secondary school students these days, do know that quite a handful of my previous charges have managed to secure an A1 (or A2 which actually isn't all that bad) for their Os, and they achieved this by climbing from a rock bottom F9/E8. If they can succeed, so can you. And I absolutely mean that.
So gear up now and stop worrying so much about how tough A Maths might be for you- bear in mind worrying ain't gonna alleviate your situation, while hard work and drive will go some way in forging a better tomorrow. All the best, and good luck. Peace.
Best Regards,
Mr Koh
